Spirit River Joins Forces with Dynasty Records Expanding North American Distribution Network is the Key
(September 8, 2008)… Spirit River Distribution and Dynasty Records are embarking on a collaborative effort that will see both companies’ music titles being available across Canada and the US to a combined retail market of well over 1000 stores.
Dynasty Records has a presence in the USA and Spirit River Distribution has a proven track record in Canada. Both companies are forward thinking and tend to think outside the box. After intense discussions over the last few months, they decided that this would be advantageous for both companies. Dynasty Records and Spirit River Distribution believe that by expanding their distribution network for a broader North American retail presence, independent artists stand to benefit from the expertise and innovation that this reciprocal business relationship offers.
Dynasty Records, a multifaceted Independent Record Label & Distributor, brings to the table Trans World, Sam Goody, FYE, Wherehouse, Strawberries, Coconuts, Streetside, Harmony House just to name a few. They access over 250 digital retail sites around the world including Puretracks, Amazon, eMusic, Bell, Sprint, iTunes, and Verizon.
Jeff Funk, President of Dynasty Records believes that this new partnership is one more step towards his goal of creating a stronger presence for independent artists on the North American playing field, “I am pleased to work with another innovative and forward thinking company like Spirit River Distribution. I believe that this will be a strong, earth-breaking partnership offering opportunities for independent artists to sell their music on an international level through bricks and mortar retail, and on the Internet.”
Jeff Funk has been in the entertainment business for over 30 years. He has had the privilege of working with many performers over the years including Alan Alda, Teddy Toye, Gary Burgdorf, Telly and George Savalis, Tommy Alvarado, Sissy Spacek, John Travalta, Wayne Newton, John Waite, Gloria Estevan, and Freddy Heart. Including now up and coming Canadian rock band RENO.
Melanie Cheek formed Spirit River Distribution in 1995. Spirit River filled a void in Alberta’s music industry at the time. The mid-nineties saw a burgeoning indie scene, with a raft of CDs released by artists who had no idea how to get their product to retail. Spirit River Distribution’s unique method of “targeted product placement” was in response to this need, which added a marketing and promotion component utilizing the artists touring and radio airplay The company continues to be a national, FACTOR recognized distributor.
Melanie Cheek, President of Spirit River Distribution is thrilled with the opportunity to join forces with Dynasty Records “I’ve been seeking this type of reciprocal business relationship for the last several years. The titles registered with Spirit River will now be available to the Trans World Entertainment bank of over 800 stores. In return, Dynasty’s US based artist roster will be tapped into our HMV and Entertainment One chains of stores, along with hundreds of other smaller retailers across Canada.”
Spirit River Distribution and Dynasty Records share a vision to capitalize on growth opportunities in the marketplace... delivered the way customers want: in-store or online, physically or digitally. In the face of a continual decline in reported CD sales, HMV Canada continues to add new locations, and Trans World continues to set the pace in retail entertainment in the US.
Dynasty Records and Spirit River Distribution is a strong partnership that will create a more effective and efficient distribution network. This will better serve independent artists and will accelerate the introduction of new and improved ways of delivering product directly to the people that matter the most… the artists’ fans.
